Wicks Estate Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2010 & James Brazill Shiraz 2009

James Brazill Shiraz 2009

James Brazill Shiraz 2009

Over the years leading up to Christmas the Wicks Estate from Adelaide Hills has released some great wines. A Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2010 is an ideal complement to canapés as a starter for your guests arriving on Christmas Day. And, when seated at the table (most likely groaning with food), consider serving a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc 2012, best with a cold seafood spread.

To get the delightful zesty freshness for their Sparkling, Winemakers Leigh Ratzmer and Tim Knappstein fermented the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay separately and then mixed them to get the precise flavour combination for a rip-roaring party. A perfect bubbly to drink with those pre dinner nibblies or chilled on it's own on a summers day.

The Sauvignon Blanc 2012 is an easy to drink wine that goes down well with a lighter menu, particularly seafoods. It leaves a hint of lime, passionfruit and tropical fruit aftertaste on the palate.

The Sauvignon Blanc comes in at $18 and the Sparkling is priced at $25.

A Glass For Lunch:

Julie Berry is never short of a whimsical yet often irreverent but memorable phrase about her often outstanding wines under her catchy and unique label - Good Catholic Girl.

One that comes to mind about her James Brazill Clare Shiraz 2009 which has a palate, as she puts it, that, "makes it almost sinfully easy to drink." This full bodied Shiraz has beautiful aromas of chocolate, dark plum and spices that seem to launch themselves from the glass.

According to Julie, the fruit for the Shiraz (without a doubt one of her best ever) was sourced from her Limerick vineyard at Armagh and was luckily picked on 7th March which just so happened to be "the feast day of St Celcius of Armagh".

She has the view that the Shiraz goes down particularly well with a traditional Irish Stew while we would serve it up with a good old Christmas Day roast turkey. It is priced around $30.
