Deakin Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2012 & Terra Felix La Vie en Rose Rosé 2011
Deakin Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Would we be considered bombastic if we were to suggest we've discovered a new
dish for the nation was on the horizon? However, when we were invited by
winemaker Phil Spillman on a very warm day to sample a chilled Sauvignon Blanc
2012 from the Deakin Estate with just a cold avocado we were knocked off out
feet by the beautiful rewards of such a simple combination - particularly when
Craig Thornton, vineyard manager, added some of the home grown grapes straight
from the fridge.
A few days later when it was even hotter and we opened another one or two
chilled bottles with Spillman and a few friends, they shared a few extra
delightful combinations with avocado; scooped and spread on Sourdough or
avocado whipped through vanilla ice-cream - this, they claimed, with Sauvignon
Blanc was absolute summer heaven.
In addition, at only $10, if doesn't cost the earth and being a zesty,
fresh, light bodied wine overflowing with fruit flavour, it is an ideal summer
drink especially with an avocado appetiser and then continuing to the main of
grilled fish with salad.
A Glass For Lunch:
Another enjoyable, but under recognised, wine for the warmer months is a
Rosé. This is a wine to be best enjoyed slightly chilled but is just as
enjoyable from room temperature down to ice-cold.
The La Vie en Rose Rosé 2011 is a grand one from the Terra Felix Lake
Marmal Vineyard in Central Victoria. The Rosé has a gorgeous raspberry
and blackberry fruit fragrance and exciting flavours. This one is perfect
chilled lightly and with a Nicoise Salad. It is also ideal with salad with
grilled fish. You can get it from Dan Murphy and other independent distributors
for $17.50.
