Paul Ippolito's Wines of the Week
With Paul Ippolito Two Good Reds
Wynns John Riddoch Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 This
is restrained powerful robust intense red. A complex wine with
wonderful aromatics and an impressive structure. Polished pure
distinctive fruit takes it place at the fore, varietal in nature with
generous fruitcake characters counterbalanced with menthol.
A
generous gregarious delicious wine with glossy oak on the palate and
superfine tannins. The finish goes on forever and this is very
masterfully put together. Drink to 2025. About $75. 97/100 – Superb
Junipers Crossing Shiraz 2005 The
black fruits really dominate the senses here along with the oak –
cedary and quite young and firm. This wine has restrained power and I
would like to see and drink it again in a few years time as its
aromatics, structure and length of finish with its ripe yet fine
tannins augur for a good drinking future.
No don't cellar it for twenty years but do put a few bottles under the bed, to try again in a year or so. Try this with lasagna. Drink to 2012. About $18. 89/100 – Very Good.
Wine Rating Scale - Out Of 100 Points98-100 – Exceptional – A truly world class wine 95-97 – Superb – A memorable drinking experience 91-94 – Excellent – A wonderful mix of a top wine at a decent price 88-90 – Very Good – Really well made wine that should impress 85-87 – Good – Honest everyday drinking
