Pasticcio
Ingredients:
450g Lasagne Noodles
450g Minced Steak
110g Butter
2 Medium Onions (Finely Chopped)
1 Medium Tomato (Peeled & Chopped)
¾ Cup Cheese (Grated)
Ingredients for Cream Sauce:
55g Butter
3 Tablespoons Flour
550ml Milk
3 Tablespoons Cream
Salt & Pepper
Method for Cream Sauce
- Melt butter in pan and blend in flour and cook gently for 2 minutes.
- Add milk gradually, stirring over a low heat until boiling.
- Add cream while stirring.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper
Method
- Cook Lasagne noodles in boiling salted water until tender. Then drain.
- Melt butter in pan and add onions and minced steak and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add tomato.
- Add salt and pepper to taste
- Cook over low heat until meat is tender (cover pan if mixture is too dry).
- Blend with ½ cup of the grated cheese.
- Place ½ the cooked Lasagne in a greased casserole then cover with meat mix.
- Cover the meat mix with the raining ½ of the cooked Lasagne.
- Blend Cream Sauce with beaten egg and remaining grated cheese.
- Season with salt and pepper and pour over Lasagne
- Bake in a moderate oven for 40-50 minutes or until top is nicely browned.
Serve your Pasticcio hot for dinner with a dark red wine. This dish can be traced back to the 16th century as a pie containing meat and pasta. Serves 6.
