Bidgeebong Triangle Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2005
With Paul Ippolito
This very good wine emanates from a winery in the Hilltops
area of the South Eastern NSW region. A blend of Hilltops
Semillon, Tumbarumba Sauvignon Blanc and Canberra Sauvignon
Blanc make up this wine.
It is, however, the cool climate Tumbarumba and Canberra
components that just shine through and steal the show. The
wine is very well blended.
Gorgeous vibrant pale straw with fresh green tinges followed
by aromatic tropical fruits resplendent with passionfruit,
lychees and crisp green apples. Some hints of green herbs
accompany.
Real upfront fruit driven flavours carry through with smooth
fruit acid structure supporting them. Lively and soft as well
as being quite balanced but with a dry finish.
Perfect with penne al pesto. And at about $14, a bargain.
Put this wine on the winery watch list.

General features of Sauvignon Blanc:
The taste and aroma, depending on growing conditions and whether
it is oaked or unoaked, can be very grassy, herbaceous, even
citric. Sometimes it can be acidic to the point of having
a very pungent aroma, giving a crisp finish. It can be very
fruity with elements of passionfruit, maybe banana.
Cellaring? Drink it now!
The acidic taste works in your favour with oily-based dishes
such as salads, and it is perfect with lobster, oysters, scallops
or in fact any type of fish.
