Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2004
With Paul Ippolito
Quite a few of Australia's finest Chardonnays are made from
this varietal in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
They are invariably all complex wines, given the Rolls Royce
winemaking treatment and crafted with heartfelt passion.
Cape Mentelle Chardonnay has a strong reputation for being
one of these names at the top end of the quality stable. This
one is an excellent wine pitching a brilliantly pale straw
youthful colour.
A gorgeous set of subtle complex aromas ensues, delivered
with vibrancy. Elegant and yet upfront, it titillates with
classic white peach intertwined with delicate citrussy grapefruit
and lemon.
Refreshingly lively with concentrated fruit purity. Delivers
fruit driven varietal Chardonnay in a sophisticated manner
with a long aftertaste.
Well integrated seamless oak with essences of vanillan. A
classy wine with a long complex finish that exudes tits top
quality status.
Have with Barossan Chicken Breast wrapped in proscuitto on
a bed of potato puree. Drink now for 5 plus years. Priced
at the top end around $40. Get a bottle next time you are
out to impress.

General features of Merlot:
The taste/aroma is grapefruit, lemon, lime, with maybe a hint
of apricot.
Cellaring? If you wish. But, really, buy something that is
two years old and there is no time like the present!
Just as it dominates the planet, Chardonnay covers practically
the whole food range. Everything from chicken and grilled
meats to exotic creamy seafood.
