Jimbour Station Chardonnay 2002
With Paul Ippolito
This
Queensland Chardonnay is a vibrant straw yellow. Positively
varietal Chardonnay in character - ripe and lively. Somewhat
restrained nose but with a ménage of fresh aromas -
nectarine, peach, pineapple, melon and tropical fruit salad.
Subtle American and French oak influences with some spicy
characters. A clean, attractive wine with persistent tropical
and stone fruit flavours.
Ample bodied with a certain richness exhibiting bottle age
with some toasty characters. Yet well rounded, full but also
has a soft acid finish and retains subtlety. An extended and
pleasant fruit driven length. Quite well balanced.
A very drinkable Chardonnay on its own but also a good food
wine match. I would try it with fettuccine boscioala. A good
food wine. About $16. Drink now.
Winemaker Peter Scudamore-Smith MW has moulded this wine
well in a manner that balances the ripe fruit with good winemaking
practices. Available at www.jimbour.com.
Typical features of Chardonnay are:
-
The taste/aroma is grapefruit, lemon, lime, with maybe
a hint of apricot.
-
Cellaring? If you wish. But, really, buy something that
is two years old and then there is no time like the present!
-
Just as it dominates the planet, Chardonnay covers practically
the whole food range. Everything from chicken and grilled
meats to exotic creamy seafood.
