Killara Park Estate Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2004
With Paul Ippolito
The Palazzo family have a solid wine growing tradition of
a couple of hundred years standing, originating in Italy.
It is good to see that the Palazzo family tradition did not
lose any momentum when they emigrated here in Australia and
set up this very good winery operation in the Yarra Valley.
The grape growing efforts have resulted in the winemaker,
Michael Kyberd, creating one very good Chardonnay, especially
in terms of its overall quality and value.
Gorgeous straw yellow with slight green tinges in colour,
this youthful wine positively exudes lovely aromatic typically
classic Chardonnay characters of peach, melon, and cashews
yet with a refined minerally nature which exhibits the quality
grapes to their fullest.
Smooth long lingering on the palate, with a touch of creamy
texture and well integrated vanillan oak influence and just
the right acid structure that will support mid term cellaring
over next 3-4 years. It is priced very competitively at around
$20.

General features of Chardonnay:
The taste/aroma is grapefruit, lemon, lime, with maybe a hint
of apricot.
Cellaring? If you wish. But, really, purchase something that
is two years old and there is no time like the present!
Just as it dominates the planet, Chardonnay covers practically
the whole food range. Everything from chicken and grilled
meats to exotic creamy seafood.
