Marienberg Reserve Shiraz 2002
With Paul Ippolito
This McLaren Vale wine was a crowd pleaser at a recent tasting
of wines. Everyone who tasted it could not stop raving about
it.
A lovely purple violet colour, the wine has an elegant yet
luscious nose. Lots of persistent obvious rich ripe fruit
emanating, even though it was quite restrained at first.
Mulberry and blackberry fruit abound as well as hints of
soy, menthol and pepper.
A medium to full bodied red with medium length and presenting
in a well balanced fashion. A very good wine that should cellar
at least 5 years. My opinion is it still in its infancy.
Have this with a slowly braised Greek style lamb shanks.
Good value at around $20.

General features of Shiraz:
The taste/aroma is predominantly pepper - very floral, black-pepper,
with blackberry and plums.
The cooler climates add a chocolatey taste and fragrance.
When young, it is a tempting, fruity experience. But it is
flexible enough to be cellared for 25 years and mature into
a lovely mellow drop.
Perfect to enjoy with red meat, white meat, and even pizza/pasta
dishes.
