Red Nectar Barossa Valley Shiraz 2004
With Paul Ippolito
Deep dark and inky purple, this wine exudes complexity from
the moment you open the bottle.
Blackberry liqueur, lots of ripe plum, loads of liquorice
and smooth milk chocolate on the nose then palate.
Alluring and luscious aromas abound as the fruit is pure
distinct and potent. This is supported by smooth fine silky
soft young fruit tannins.
Medium bodied in style with loads of sweet ripe fruit, presented
with an extended length. Refined and complex on the palate,
yet remarkably well balanced and in sync for such a young
wine.
Not heavily oaked yet powerful. Should cellar 5-7 years as
still a very young wine. Have with marinated grilled lamb
chops. A bargain at $25.
General features of Shiraz:
The taste/aroma is predominantly pepper - very floral, black-pepper,
with blackberry and plums.
The cooler climates add a chocolatey taste and fragrance.
When young, it is a tempting, fruity experience. But it is
flexible enough to be cellared for 25 years and mature into
a lovely mellow drop.
Perfect to enjoy with red meat, white meat, and pizza/pasta
dishes.
