The
sun is shining and refusing to go to bed, which means it's the perfect
time to sit in the eery twilight of the world and enjoy the sights and
sounds of Melbourne Zoo.
The Twilights Concert Series is back
again - bigger and better than ever! Zoo Twilights 2012 will kick off a
series of events as part of Melbourne Zoo's 150th Anniversary
Celebrations.
The superb line-up of some of Australia's
favourite artists amid the magical setting of the Zoo under the stars
should not be missed! Whatever your musical tastes, there's something
for everyone at Zoo Twilights this summer. This season,
Zoo Twilights will feature some of the hottest upcoming talent around
along with the best of Australia’s entertainers and old faithful's,
including Washington, Kate Ceberano, Kasey Chambers, The Beautiful
Girls, James Morrison, Marcia Hines, James Reyne, Daryl Braithwait,
Vanessa Amorosi, Lior, Gurrumal, Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows,
the one and only RocKwiz Live and many more!
Here are the full details... Saturday 21 January – Washington With Big Scary Twilight
season opens with Aria Award winning, Washington. Megan Washington's
music has captivated audiences all over Australia with her debut album
"I Believe You Liar" awarded Platinum status in 2010.
Sunday 22 January - James Morrison Quintet With Paul Williamsons Hammond Combo The legendary James Morrison leads a talented band through a soulfulselection of jazz hits and Morrison originals.
Saturday 28 January - Kate Ceberano With Jade MacRae ARIA
Award winning, singer/songwriter Kate Ceberano has had an illustrious
career; releasing five Platinum albums, four Gold albums, selling in
excess of 1 million albums in Australia and performing countless
sell-out tours.
Sunday 29 January – BABBA Touted
as the most musically accurate ABBA tribute band, BABBA return to the
Twilights program. Performing since 1994, BABBA have played to packed
audiences in Australia, Asia and New Zealand.
Saturday 4 February - Kasey Chambers With Bill Chambers Kasey
Chambers quickly became known as the face of a daring new generation of
performers in the Country Music scene, releasing her debut solo album
in 1999 winning an ARIA Award, triple-platinum sales and international
acclaim.
Her most successful single "Not Pretty Enough" followed in 2001 off her second album Barricades and Brickwalls.
Sunday 5 February - The Pink Show Don't
miss Australia's number one Pink Tribute Show at this year's Zoo
Twilights. The Pink Show stars the incredible Susi Tate giving the most
realistic Pink performance you can have without seeing Pink herself.
Saturday 11 February - The Beautiful Girls With The Fearless Vampire Killers The
iconic Australian rock band, The Beautiful Girls from the New South
Wales coast, perform their own eclectic mix of laid back rock, reggae,
roots, folk and pop sounds making this band a popular choice for Zoo
Twilights.
Sunday 12 February - Marcia Hines With Bonnie Anderson Marcia
Hines, the First Lady of Song is arguably one of Australia's most
popular female pop stars. Hailing originally from Boston, Hines moved
to Australia at the age of 17 on a six-month contact but ended up
staying to raise her daughter Deni. After 30years in the
business, Hines still holds the title of the Queen of Pop and was
recently inducted in the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Saturday 18 February - James Reyne & Band & Daryl Braithwaite Two
of Australia's rock legends take to the stage this Twilights Series.
Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne will be performing classics from
their illustrious careers so come and join us for a night of Australian
originals at Melbourne Zoo. Saturday 25 February – Vanessa Amorosi With Zoophyte Vanessa
Amorosi is arguably one of Australia’s most talented singers performing
at the moment. Her experience is varied and impressive and has wowed
audiences since her teens, going on to enjoy phenomenal success having
sold over 1.5 million records worldwide andperforming at Sydney 2000
Olympics & the Manchester Commonwealth Games.
Sunday 26 February – Wendy Stapleton Swingin’ 60s Melbourne
Zoo welcomes back Wendy Stapleton for another night of go-go dancing
and '60s hits. The Swingin’ Sixties showcases songs from icons such as
The Supremes, Cilla Black, Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield. Step
back into an era of miniskirts, beehives and go-go dancing under the
stars.
Saturday 3 March – Lior Australia-based
singer and songwriter Lior is a talented guitarist and singer. His
sound is defined by the combination of a contemporary roots sound with
many Israeli / Middle East and Jewish influences. Liorreleased his
first album, Autumn Flow, in 2005 and has been nominated for a handful
of awards - including nods from the J Award and the ARIA Awards.
Sunday 4 March – BABBA Babba are back... again.
Saturday 10 March – Gurrumul With Dewayne Everettsmith Gurrumul
joins the Twilights Concert Series. What better way to enjoy this
unique take on Gumatj clan stories, as he sublimely adapts them into
contemporary song styles. Gurrumul has come into his own style, with
his 2008 inaugural album debuting at the number one position on
Australia's ARIA independent charts.
Sunday 11 March - Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows With Vika & Linda Bull Fronted
by Joe Camilleri, the Black Sorrows formed in 1983 and are remembered
for their hits "Hold On To Me", "Chained to the Wheel", and "Snake Skin
Shoes". The ever-changing line up of the band has ensured that that the
band is a melting pot of Aussie talent.
Saturday 17 March – RocKwiz Live –Salutes the Animals With hosts Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis The
2012 Twilights series will be wrapped up with RocKwiz Live – Salutes
the Animals. RocKwiz is Australia's original live music television show
since 2005. Hosts Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis, will
take mystery guests and contestants selected from the live audience
through four rounds of questions, before the guests perform a
show-closing duet with the RocKwiz Orkestra.
