Holden today welcomed the announcement by Caltex Australia that it would sell its new fuel, Bio E-Flex, at six Brisbane sites by the end of October.

Bio E-Flex is now on sale at Caltex sites in Mackenzie and Brookwater, and will be available from a further four sites including Alexandra Hills, Churchill, Marsden and Worongary by the end of next month.

Holden’s Energy and Environment Director Richard Marshall said the ethanol-blend fuel, also known as E85, is suitable for the 3.0-litre V6 and 6.0-litre V8 models in Holden's recently launched VE Series II Commodore range.

"With Holden’s new flex-fuel cars hitting the road the month and Bio E-Flex going on sale, this is a major step towards creating a cleaner fuel landscape in Australia," Mr Marshall said.

"Holden and Caltex are giving drivers the choice to use a fuel that is up to 85 per cent renewable, with the potential to reduce well to wheel CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent, compared to driving on petrol."

Holden’s new flex-fuel vehicles in the Series Commodore II range are capable of running on this fuel, as well as E10, Unleaded, Premium or any combination.

"The introduction of flex-fuel capability on Series II vehicles highlights Holden's leadership position in reducing the impact of personal driving on the environment," Mr Marshall said.

"As part of our EcoLine strategy, we have a commitment to offering our customers a broad range of vehicles that use alternative fuel or fuel-saving technologies. These solutions are designed to make motoring affordable and better for the environment."

Bio E-Flex will be available at more than 30 Caltex service stations in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra by the end of October, with the number of pumps scheduled to increase to 100 metropolitan and regional locations by mid 2011.
