Subaru XV

subaru xv

Subaru has confirmed its fun-themed XV sub-compact Sports Utility Vehicle, which was first seen during September's Frankfurt Motor Show, will definately go on sale in Australia as early as January 2012.

Managing Director of Subaru Australia, Nick Senior, revealed that the "fun filled Subaru XV will be the first of a number of new Subaru launches in 2012" and that the car would be "a stand alone model joining the Forester, Outback and Tribeca" in Subaru's ever expanding SUV range.

Senior also promised the XV would deliver "Outstanding fuel efficiency" and that "the XV will also be a fun-to-drive vehicle... [with] Excellent stability, highly responsive handling and exceptional driving dynamics".

These will all be "hallmarks of this vehicle that's been achieved because our signature Boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive enables us to have the lowest centre of gravity in its class by the proverbial country mile".

Standout Features - Subaru XV

  • Choice of super-efficient Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission or smooth six-speed manual

  • New third generation 2.0-litre FB horizontally opposed Boxer engine, taking Subaru petrol engine efficiency to a new level

  • Subaru safety assured – seven airbags including a driver's knee SRS airbag

  • 17-inch alloy wheels unique to the model

"It could well be the ultimate late Christmas present!" declared Senior who also revealed that on preliminary figures, the centre of gravity is 39mm lower than a Nissan Dualis and 22 mm lower than the Volkswagen Tiguan, two of the cars key competitors.

Amazingly, the Subaru XV still manages to have a ground clearance of 220 mm, 32mm more than the Dualis and 25mm more than the Tiguan, which is yet another step forward in demonstrating the superiority of Subaru's Boxer engine and Symmetrical AWD.

In essence,  the lower centre of gravity, but not ground clearance, adds-up to a lot more fun for drivers – "fun to drive, fun for adventure, fun for recreation, fun for the Australian way of life".

Pricing for the Subaru XV has yet to be announced, but if their sales pitch is anything to go buy... how can you put a price on "fun". Did they mention is was "fun" yet?
