New Nissan seriously sexy

There's no better way to start an article about Nissan's brand new 2001 sports car than with one word: impressive.

The car, known in its country of origin as the Silvia, has undergone myriad changes, the most notable a new set of clothes.

As you can tell from the photo (pictured right) the new 200SX is aggressively styled, with new wrap-around headlights eccentuating its sporty origins.

But it is not only the eye-catching looks that separate the new 200SX from its predecessors. The new powerplant is stirring, following on from the legendary Skyline GT-R turbo configuration.

A 2.0 litre mill powers the 200SX which, thankfully, is rear-wheel drive. This four-cylinder DOHC engine features electronic fuel injection and, to the delight of many, a turbocharger and intercooler to match.

The new engine configuration pumps out 147kW at the rear 16" five-spoke alloy wheels. Peak torque is at 4800rpm, generating 265 Nm of the stuff - this one is lightning-quick off the line.

The 200SX will be available with both manual and auto gearboxes, six and four-speed respectively.

The manual version weighs in at 1265kg dry (no petrol) which, considering its size, is quite an achievement.

There will be two models, the Spec R and the Spec S with the former being the pricier of the two. It comes with cosmetic upgrades such as electric sun-roof, side skirts and rear spoiler.

The manual 200SX models feature helical limited slip differentials, similar to those fitted on the race-bred Skyline GT-R. Basically, this helical LSD allows for better traction contol under acceleration. No more wipeouts in the supermarket carpark.

Inside, the 200SX will impress. With supportive, sports-styled seats, drivers are positioned to have simpler access to the accelerator pedal - very important.

The interior is finished with lots of titanium and the gear-shifter is also finished in this long-lasting and elegant metal.

A four-speaker CD stereo, leather steering wheel and ABS brakes round out the features in Nissan's latest vehicle.

The 200SX is looking hot. It will turn heads as well as provide drivers with the aggressiveness only a turbocharged engine can deliver.

And the best part? The 2001 Nissan 200SX base-model will sell for $39,990. Top of the line Spec R auto models will sell for $45,990.
