Hiroshima, Japan — What better way to start the new financial year than with leaked images of the next generation Mazda3. Showing
off a new design that parallels it's bigger brother, the Mazda6,
the first images of the new Mazda3 have been leaked. Their authenticity cannot be 100% confirmed at this stage, these images appear do in fact appear to be the real deal. The
vehicle you see on the right side of this web page are likely to
be the new concept car upon which the next generation Mazda3 will be
based. The Mazda3 is one of the top selling cars in
Australia, and is also highly popular right across the globe and has
underpinned much of Mazda's recent success. While the overall design appears very likely to be
the all-new 2010 Mazda3 - the headlights are the biggest giveaway,
mirroring those of the Mazda6 - it is most likely to be concept car
being readied for a major motor show, perhaps Paris 2008. The
skinny side mirrors and integrated exhaust pipes are clues that this is
a concept car, as these intricate and sculptured features would be
costly to mass produce. The overall body shape is in
line with Mazda's 'Nagare' design language that is filtering into the
Japanese car maker's more recent designs, and is very sporty for a
hatchback. Various stylistic touches, such as the Mazda2-inspired LED brake light
design and the thin creases that run along the lower part of the doors
give the vehicle an ultra-modern appearance. This
leaked 'concept' is likely to be the precursor to a range-topping hot
hatch model, perhaps the turbocharged Mazda3 MPS (Mazdaspeed3), which
could be ouputting up to 200kW of power (268hp) and 400Nm of torque. Like
the Mazda6, the new Mazda3 range will likely be pushed upmarket
somewhat, with improved interiors, safety and comfort features. These
leaked images show a 5-door hatchback model, but there are likely to be
other models on the drawing board, such as the compact sedan. We'll have more news on the new Mazda3 soon.
