Bavarian Motor Works has been toiling away for many moons
now, on what could be called a slightly 'unorthodox' concept.
This next vehicle comes straight from the showroom floor
of the Detroit International Auto Show and could well lead
the way for new-age roadsters.
There is little information available on the new X Coupé
from BMW, but we do have a few tasty morsels that we're sure
will whet your appetite.
It would seem as though BMW has gone off the rails with the
X Coupé, but in the end, all of it somehow makes sense.
The newest Beemer is not a coupé in the traditional
sense. This model is a cross-breed. It is designed for high
speeds on bitumen roads, but also for the rugged terrain in
off-road wildernesses. Off-road, you say? Yes, you heard right.
It takes advantage of a 6-cylinder 3.0-litre injected diesel
engine. This pumps out a credible 135kW. Suffice to say this
model will be quick, but not blindingly so.
The styling is one of the most flamboyant seen in any BMW
yet. BMW has classed the term used for such styling as “flame
surfacing”.
This novel idea throws symmetry out of the window and the
result is something unique. This was unexpected from the likes
of BMW.
For instance, the boot opens up via hinges placed near the
rear bumper. As you can see from the photos, it looks rather
... interesting.
Inside, the details take no particular pattern but instead
ebb and flow with concave then convex panels and instruments.
The interior is pitched towards the driver with a 'cockpit'
feel providing an increased sense of control.
Truly, BMW has shown a lot of guts in producing the X Coupé.
It is different, very different, but it could well be a popular
model if the price is right. At this stage, no pricing is
available.
