Germany –
ABT has been synonyms with the Golf GTI
name since the 1970's. Tuning company ABT has been tuning cars for 50
years and just in time for the company's anniversary, they have
released its new tuning packages for the sixth generation Golf GTI.
The German firm's engineers have
managed to produce some impressive figures. An optimised engine
management system (ABT POWER) and exhaust system upgrade boosts the
standard 154kW (210HP) to 191kW (260HP), while the ABT POWER S
package boosts performance even further.
The ABT POWER S package includes a new
turbocharger, that is manufactured in Kempten and gives the 2.0
TSI a power output of 221kW (300HP) and a 0-100km/h in under six
seconds, In comparison, the factory Golf GTI VI sprints from 0 to
100km/h in 7.2 seconds.
Thanks to ABT, the GTI has lower,
stiffer springs that lower the centre of gravity by 30mm improving
cornering and overall handling. A high-performance brake system and
newly designed 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels are also available.
The German turners have also developed a
body-styling kit that includes, a Rear spoiler and rear apron
superstructure, side skirts, new front grill and front bumper with
LED daytime lights as well as a diagonal 4-pipe exhaust system.
And finally, the tuning folks at ABT
upgraded the GTI's interior with red accents on the steering wheel,
the instrument gauges the dashboard and the door trims.
ABT charge €3,276 for their aerodynamic kit, plus €1,080 to fit and install and €1,170 to paint. The 260hp
package comes to €1,490, plus €60 installation and €130
TÜV-registration. The 300hp package is priced at €5,300 and
that includes installation and TÜV-registration.
