London, United Kingdom -
A part of automotive and
film history will go under the hammer for the first time in October,
when it is to be auctioned off. The Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean
Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball is said to be worth an estimated
£3.5million pounds (around $6 million AUD).
The car is one of two
vehicles which was specifically built in 1964 for the Bond films and is
now the sole remaining example from the iconic films.
The James
Bond DB5 comes complete with 'Q-Branch' gadgets like oil slick sprayer,
machine guns, revolving number plates, bullet-proof shield, nail
spreader, smoke screen, passenger ejector seat, tracking device and a
removable roof panel. The car also features the famous numberplate FMP
7B.
Up until now an American disc jockey, by the name
of Jerry
Lee, was the car’s first and only owner when he bought it from the
factory for $US12,000 in 1969, and since then it has rarely been seen
in public.
All the proceeds will be donated to 'The Jerry Lee
Foundation' which is a national initiative dedicated to solving social
problems associated with poverty, with an emphasis on crime prevention.
“The
James Bond car has brought me much enjoyment for some 40 years,” said
Jerry Lee. “Even as I sell it and use the proceeds to fund the Jerry
Lee Foundation, the car will continue to give me great pleasure as it
furthers the mission of the Foundation to do good around the world.”
The auction will be held at RM’s annual
Automobiles of London sale at the Battersea Evolution in London on
October 27.
