Frankfurt,
Germany
–
Audi
has officially unveiled its 2010
R8 V10 Spyder 5.2 FSI at this years Frankfurt Motor Show.
Offering
exceptional style and
performance, the new R8 V10 Spyder 5.2 FSI features carbon
fibre
body parts, open-top driving and a Mid-mounted V10 engine.
Audi's V10
produces 386kW (525 hp) at
8,000 rpm and a max torque of 530 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The open-top
two-seater is capable of reaching 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds and
0-200km/h in 12.7seconds - before hitting a top speed of 313km/h
(194.49 mph) when coupled to the six-speed manual.
The 5.2-litre
engine features FSI
direct fuel injection, which helps keep fuel consumption to an
average of 14.9l/100km (six-speed manual) and 13.9l/100km (R tronic).
The 2010 R8 V10
Spyder 5.2 SFI comes
with a six-speed manual as standard or the R tronic automatic
six-speed transmission as an available option. The R tronic
transmission offers three modes - normal, sport and manual shift
mode, which allows the driver to change gears freely using either the
gear shifter or using the paddles on the steering wheel.
The R8 Spyder
5.2 FSI makes use of
Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel drive system which provides
greater traction, stability and cornering speed.
Also helping
out in the handling
department is the 19-inch 10-spoke Y design wheels that are wrapped
in 235/35 front and 295/30 rubber and the eight-piston caliper
(front) and four-piston caliper (rear) discs brakes to bring the
soft-top to a halt.
The open-top
two-seater's interior
features a three-spoke leather multifunction sport steering wheel,
low-mounted, electrically adjustable, heated seats - wrapped in Nappa
Leather and a Bang & Olufsen sound system as standard.
The electro
hydraulic soft top is made
from a leak-proof textile fabric and closes in 19 seconds – even
while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.
R8’s trademark aluminum “side blades” are not
present on the
Spyder model. Other visual changes to the 2010 R8 V10 Spyder 5.2 SFI
model include additional air intakes located behind the seats as well
as a pair of safety roll bars. The placement of the fuel filler cap
was also changed due to the lack of rear pillars. Changes
under sheet
metal are focused around chassis strengthening.
Sales are
expected to begin in the second or third quarter of
2010, with prices expect to rise $30,000 to $40,000 (AUD).
