Paris, France
- Audi has released details of its new
range topping A1 1.4 TFSI that is set to be launched at this years
Paris Motor Show.
The vehicle features a stiff
chassis that provides sporty handling, while the dual-charged 1.4 TFSI
delivers 136kW of power and and 250Nm of torque. Audi’s seven-speed S
tronic dual-clutch transmission comes standard.
From zero to 100 km/h the A1 1.4
TFSI takes just 6.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 227 km/h
(performance figures are provisional).
The A1 1.4 TFSI consumes on
average 5.9-liters of fuel per 100km, while emitting just 139 g/km
(provisional figures) of CO2.
Audi has used a special engine
concept – a combination of supercharger and turbocharger. The
supercharger spins into action at 1,500rpm, and in most situations is
disengaged at 2,400rpm. From around 3,500rpm, the turbocharger kicks in
and does all the work. Because it doesn’t have to do as much work at
the lower end of the rev range, the developers were able to use a large
turbo and design it for high efficiency.
The McPherson construction at the
front, and the torsion-beam rear suspension with separate springs and
dampers provide the perfect basis for nimble and percise handling.
In terms of safety, two front
airbags, thorax/pelvic side airbags and curtain head airbags are
standard. Belt tensioners and belt force limiters plus the Audi
integral headrest system round out the package. Isofix child seat
anchor points in the rear are also standard.
