Sydney, Australia — Shipments of Audi's new A4 model have started arriving in Australia. Priced from $50,900 the new model will be on sale in early May. The
A4 is Audi's bread-and-butter model - it accounts for a large majority
of the German car maker's global sales. If the A4 sells well, Audi
bottom line will be very healthy. According
to Audi, this brand new, latest-generation vehicle will boost the
profile of Audi in Australia in its segment thanks to its winning
combination of stylish design, strong performance and larger, wider,
more dynamic appearance. The new model from Audi will compete against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series. Two
petrol and three diesel engines spanning 4- and 6-cylinder engine types
will be available in 2008, with pricing and introduction dates as
follows: Arriving In May 2008
A4 1.8 TFSI manual: $50,900
A4 1.8 TFSI multitronic: $53,500
A4 2.0 TDI multitronic: $54,900
A4 3.2 FSI quattro tiptronic: $88,500 Arriving In June 2008
A4 2.7 TDI multitronic: $67,900 After
the Audi A4 sedan has shipped in May and June, Audi will launch the
wagon variant - Avant - in August, to be followed by the high
performance twin-turbo V6 diesel A4 in October. Prices for these models are still being finalised: Arriving In August 2008
A4 Avant 1.8 TFSI multitronic
A4 Avant 2.0 TDI multitronic
Arriving In October 2008
A4 3.0 TDI quattro tiptronic According to Audi the types of people who will looking to buy the A4, which accounts
for almost half of all Audi's sold in Australia, will be aged
between 35 and 52 years of age, will be married with children, and Audi
predicts that 80% of buyers will be men. Audi says that A4 customers want a car that represents their social status. They are likely to be tolerant, aesthetic rationalists who enjoy "a high standard of living" and prefer "the beautiful things in life".
Though it may look eerily similar to the previous mode, the new A4 is longer and wider which allows for more roominess inside. Audi has packed the new model with some new features, including things like the intuitive MMI
control system, new Audi drive select, Lane Assist, Side Assist,
daytime running lights and Adaptive Cruise Control. These features are "previously
found only on much higher-end models," explains Audi. As
well as the new 4-cylinder diesel engine, the Audi A4 will also benefit
from the VW Group's all-new 1.8-litre TFSI engine, outputting 118kW and
250Nm of torque. The first Australian application of
this engine was in the Skoda Octavia, which has recently been
roadtested on the Motoring Channel. The engine was given a big wrap by
the Editor, who scored it 4.5 out of 5, praising its smooth power
delivery and impressive fuel efficiency. Audi
has also confirmed that it will release it's sports package for the new
2008 A4 in July, the 'S Line'. Adding larger 18-inch wheel rims, a
sports body kit, leather 'S Line' seats and other features. It will add
$3,600 to the cost.
