Sydney,
Australia
–
Audi have released the all new S4 in Australia.
The
new Audi S4 has a new 3.0-litre TFSI supercharged V6, the newest member
of the Audi V-engine family, delivering 245kW and accelerating from 0
to 100Km/h in 5.3 seconds, it ueses on average 9.4litres per 100km.
The new 3-litre TFSI motor replaces the outgoing
model’s 253kW 4.2-litre V8.
Audi
haven't specified whether the S4’s has the standard six-speed
manual or optional seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission to
achieve these times, but it’s likely to be the S-tronic, as the new
dual-clutch manuals provide the fastest gear changes.
The new S4
also boasts improved real-world performance thanks to a higher peak
torque – up from 410 to 440Nm – delivered from 2500rpm to
4850rpm. This allows the S4 to accelerate in fourth gear from
80-120km/h in only 4.4 seconds.
Audi's Quattro permanent all-wheel
drive system is featured on the new Audi S4, which also
has a new seven-speed S tronic that changes gears in a heart beat and
the new sport differential distributes the torque when needed between
the rear wheels.
This 'everyday sports-car' has a starting price
of $118,900 but spending that kind of money you get a DVD-based
Navigation System, Audi MMI operating logic, electric seats and
mirrors, Audi Parking Plus system at front and rear, Xenon headlights
with LED daytime running lights and full keyless entry.
Audi’s
managing director, Joerg Hofmann, says “The new Audi S4 will
undoubtedly find favour with Australian buyers. Typically for Audi S
models its design is subtle yet dynamic."
"It is larger than its
predecessor and offers seating for five people making it versatile and
practical, and fuel consumption has been reduced by around 24 % – an
incredible achievement for a potent sportscar," Joerg hofmann said.
The new Audi S4 has a presence on the road, with a
tough and muscular look that may appeal to Australian buyers.
Audi's
new S4 also comes with 18-inch S-design alloy wheels, aluminium-look
exterior mirrors, sill panels, quadruple exhaust system and restrained
rear spoiler.
Now known for their use of Xenon plus
headlights with LED daytime running lights and the rear LED lights,
Audi have used the same application here with the S4 just to add a
distinctive touch.
The interior is race inspired with a touch of
luxury. Sport bucket seats are wrapped in leather that features
electric lumbar support and pull-out thigh support (featuring the S
emblem), an instrument panel with gray dials and white needles that
also sport the S4 emblem, multifunction sport steering wheel
and
Advanced key.
Advanced is the electronic access and
authorisation system which is available as an
option, the driver can keep the car key in his or her pocket when
unlocking and starting the vehicle.
The new Audi S4 will also come with optional
assistance systems that will provide the driver with even greater
control and safety on the road. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) which
measures the distance between you and the vehicle in front, and the use
of braking guard which issues warnings regarding possible rear-end
collisions. Also the Audi S4 comes with side assist (makes changing
lanes safer) and rear parking sensors.
The five-link front axle
and the self-tracking trapezoidal-link rear axle are made almost
entirely of aluminium which means less weight.
The chassis boasts stiffer axle bearings, Audi S4 is also 20
mm lower due to the sport tuned shock absorbers.
High-performance
and fade-resistant brakes sit behind the 18-inch and optional 19-inch
cast aluminum wheels. The black-painted brake calipers – at the front
have the S4 emblem – grip the ventilated disks with newly
developed brake pads.
Audi’s new, more powerful RS4 is due later in 2009.
