 Audi TT 1.8 TFSI
Audi's new 1.8-litre turbo FSI engine promises performance and economy

Ingolstadt, Germany —
Audi's second generation TT is a formidable drivers car.
Available with 2.0-litre turbo or 3.2-litre V6 engines in Australia,
it's iconic sports car status has never been in question. See our road test for the inside story on what makes the German coupe so good to drive. Audi
has now decided to offer European drivers yet another new model on top
of the recently announced diesel-powered TT, this model driven by
one of the German marque's newest engines - the 1.8-litre TFSI
powerplant. This small 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine will
drive the Audi TT's front wheels, to the tune of 118kW (160hp) and will
represent the new entry-level sports car at a lower price. No word yet on how much lower the cost will be, but it is expected to open up the Audi TT to a new driver demographic. We
spoke to Audi Australia about both the new 2.0 TDI diesel and
just-announced 1.8 TFSI Audi TT models, and at this stage neither model
has been confirmed. Audi Australia said it was investigating the new diesel TT and that nothing has been signed and sealed as yet. As
for the new entry-level Audi TT 1.8 TFSI, it hasn't been officially
launched in Europe yet - due to make its debut at the Leipzig Motor
Show in Germany this month - and Audi Australia's General Manager
Corporate Communications said it would be premature to speculate
on its availability or price in this country. The new high performance Audi TTS has been confirmed for Australian deliveries this year, however. Launching
in Germany this month, the 1.8-litre Audi TT outputs 118kW of
power @ 5000rpm and 250Nm of torque from as low as 1500rpm. Audi
claims that it will be able to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 7.2
seconds, while average fuel consumption will low: 6.7L/100km. Both very
good figures. Audi has not confirmed any visual updates for the
entry-level TT at this stage. New alloy wheels and badging are the most
likely change. This new 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine will
also be rolled out in other the Audi vehicles such as the
all-new A4 and A5, as well as other VW Group vehicles. Related articles: - Audi R8 V12 TDI (2008) - Audi TT-S (2008) - Audi A3 Cabriolet (2008) - Audi RS 6 (2008) - Audi S3 (Road Test) - Audi Metroproject quattro Concept (2009)
