 2011 BMW 6-Series
This artists impression of the next generation BMW 6-Series is basically a chopped, 2-door version of the CS Concept but seems to work quite well as a coupe |
Munich, Germany
– Recent artist renderings have emerged of a possible coupe-cabriolet iteration of a next generation 2011 BMW 6-Series Coupe. Currently BMW offer the 650i cabriolet which has 32-valve V8 that produces 270kW and 490Nm of torque, and the M6 cabriolet version that has a gut busting V10 producing 373kW and 520Nm of torque. It's
obvious to see from these pictures the artist has taken the BMW Concept
CS and used it as the template for this project. According
to sources inside BMW, the next generation 6-Series is still undergoing
design development, but could resemble this mock-up. BMW had put a lot of thought and effort into the Concept CS
which was originally set as a new generation 8-Series vehicle,
and it would seem unlikely that the German car company would
completely abandon such a daring design. Perhaps
then, this rendering is close to reality and BMW may be using the
Concept CS as inspiration for the next generation 2-door 6 Series coupe
rather than the now defunct 4-door 8-Series. Although
these images look as if car company BMW has lost some of it's identity,
looking at the rear of the car you would swear you were looking at
the back side of a new Dodge Charger concept, where as the front takes
you back to the old BMW 850CSi which was a great looking car in it's time. You
can see the natural progression of the design. Have a quick glance at
the new BMW Z4 and you can see the slight relationship between the two
as both the Z4 and this rendering have the same smooth taillights and elongated bonnet. Massive flared guards are necessary to fit the large alloy wheels under the wheel arches and give the design a strong presence. Smooth
stylised lines are current throughout the car, which compliment the
quad exhausts that are tucked nicely into the curves of the rear bumper. For fans of the hard-top convertible, this 2-door sports car is sure to impress if it was ever put into production. The 2011 BMW 6-Series is in the pipeline and very much sets it's sights on the likes of Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar's high-end coupe-convertible models. It will be interesting to see if the design incorporates the Concept CS's style.
