BMW Confirms New X1 For 2011

– BMW has released
details of thnew X1 SUV (SAV). Measuring 4.45 metres long, has
a wheelbase of 2.76 metres and is only 1.545 metres high. The
newest model in the X range is also the smallest. Wide wheel
arches and low roof line give the X1 a sporty feel and an aggressive,
yet elegant look. Not forgetting it's heritage, BMW's signature kidney
grille is evermore evident and the headlights are sleek like a cat
ready to pounce. Weighing only 1,615kg (EU), the new X1 comes
with 17-inch alloys as standard. A electrically operated Panorama glass
roof is also available as an added option. BMW's X1 interior
features an elevated seating position that gives the feeling of space
and also has a wide range of storage options. The rear has three
full-sized seats that offer generous space. A a rear-seat backrest that
is adjustable for angle and folds down in a 40/20/20 split. The new BMW X1 features BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, as well as a wide range of BMW EfficientDynamics features including Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop, and a gearshift point indicator. In
conjunction with the optional Business and Professional navigation
systems, the BMW X1 is equipped with the new BMW iDrive system. The
system can be mated to a USB port, a CD player, and six Pro Logic 7
HiFi loud speakers. A rear parking camera and/or Park Distance Control
can also be specified from the options list. When the BMW X1
debuts there will be six models to choose from. The xDrive28i will be
the only model fitted with a petrol-engine. The 3.0-litre inline-six
will produce 190kW (258hp) and 310Nm of torque. The rest of the
X1's lineup has diesel engines, the sDrive18d has 105kW (143hp) and
320Nm of torque, while the sDrive20d produces 130kW (177hp) and 350Nm
of torque. Both models are Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and are coupled with
a 6-speed manual gearbox. The more expensive of the bunch is the
xDrive18d which has the same figures as the sDrive18d producing 105kW
(143hp) and 320Nm. The xDrive20d also shares the same figures as the
sDrive20d with 130kW (177hp) and 350Nm. Rounding out the line-up is the xDrive23d which has a 2.0-litre twin turbo motor that does 150kW (204hp) and 400Nm of torque. Customers
in the USA will see the first batch of the BMW X1 some time in 2011,
US-bound engine stats and prices have not been confirmed as yet.
