Michigan,
United States
- First making its debut as a concept back in 2008 at the Australian
International Motor Show, Cadillac has finally revealed its CTS Coupé
ahead of the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
Originally
expected to be launched earlier this year, plans for the CTS Coupé were
delayed due to GM’s restructuring and the global financial crisis.
Cadillac
general manager, Bryan Nesbitt had this to say "CTS Coupé is the new
focal point of Cadillac, expressing both our design and technical
capabilities, it is intended to appeal to a new generation of car
enthusiasts."
The Coupé joins the CTS Sport Sedan, sharing the
same 227kW 3.6-litre V6 and sitting on the same wheelbase as
the
sedan (accept the Coupé's overall length is shortened by 5cm).
Cadillacs CTS Coupé will be paired with an
automatic or manual transmission, both six-speed.
Although
the CTS Coupé takes design cues from its sport sedan brother, the Coupé
only shares the instrument panel, centre console, headlamps,
front
bumper and grille.
Key design features include:
Classic hardtop styling, with no conventional B-pillar
Touch-pad operation for the doors removes the need for conventional
door handles, creating a clean profile
The
windscreen is angled at 62.3 degrees and a long, nearly
horizontal backglass area combine to create sleek aerodynamics
Sculpted lower front bumper with unique brake-cooling vents
Diamond cut-style rear bumper with mesh lower grilles
Centre-outlet exhaust with twin dihedral-shaped tips that pass through
the rear bumper
Signature vertical lighting, highlighted with LED lights
Rear
spoiler integrated into the centre high-mounted stop lamp
Sculpted roof-mounted aerial for OnStar and XM Satellite Radio.
Two
suspension-tuning options will be available. The Performance Package
includes 18-inch wheels and all-season tyres, while the Summer Tyre
Performance Package will include 19-inch wheels and performance tyres.
A rear limited-slip differential is standard.
The CTS Coupé will be offered in a choice of
rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive on the Performance Package.
Interior
wise the Cadillac CTS is likely to include 14-way adjustable Recaro
sport seats, a pop-up navigation system, and a Bose 5.1 surround sound
system. Although we’ll have to wait until the official release date
which is reported to be mid 2010 in the US for full details.
