 Sitting on

Cayenne
Not Spicy EnoughAppearing
as an urban tank that looks ready to crush a line of compact
cars
without needing to adjust its electronically controlled ride height,
the heavily fortified Porsche Cayenne from German-based Lumma Design
makes an almighty impression. Aggressive in every sense, it sits on
massive 22-inch wheels and features a bodykit best described as
'forceful'. If you were to spot such a broad, hulking beast looming in
your rear vision mirror, with its overblown trio of air
intakes,
flared bonnet nostrils and contrasting lower apron, you wouldn't be
alone in feeling insignificant. This capacious conversion is
for the Cayenne owner who wants to attract lots of attention. -

Is the supercharged V8
Range Rover Sport not
powerful enough for your liking? BMW's X5 4.8is not hugging the ground
enough? If so, Lumma Design may have the vehicle to suit your needs.
Meet the Cayenne CLR 400 GT. As the Lumma brothers
explain, those who were not content with the standard outfit of the
Zuffenhausen
sports car can now look to the innovations of Lumma Design: "Ex
factory, this vehicle just looks too smart and neat," insisted Horst
Lumma. That
was one of the reasons why the designer, along with
his brother
and model construction engineer, Andreas Lumma, developed the
new body kit, the CLR 400 GT, giving the Cayenne a very
different
look to the more restrained factory standard model. Rivals
such as Volkswagen, BMW or Jeep fall into
the same category that concerns the Porsche's exterior; they're dull
and listless. And very much to the sorrow of
many Porsche enthusiasts, explains Lumma. But with its new bodykit,
which sells for €22,000 ($A36,000) and takes about two weeks
to
install, all that has changed. It
comprises a front spoiler bumper with
double headlights, a rear spoiler with diffuser, chunky side skirts
with extra door panels below, a three element front grill and the
Lumma emblem. A sporty look bonnet with venting slots, a roof-edge
spoiler with a tear-off edge, headlight eyebrows and double-output
exhaust pipes are also part of the CLR 400 GT package, giving the
vehicle a more individual (and menacing) appearance. The
Porsche Cayenne S goes for about $129,900
in Australia and about €63,000
in Europe, and in this form it features Porsche's
thumping 250KW
(340bhp) V8 engine, which can deliver a top speed of 242km/h
(150mph). And as the token engineer of the
group, Andreas Lumma keenly advises: "For those, who feel that the
Cayenne appears to be meek even after our innovations, we've got some
more technical extras." These
extras can include a lower suspension setting module to give the
Cayenne and even lower stance and alterations to the powertrain. The
engine changes boost power to 350kW (470bhp) and 640Nm from the
4.5-litre V8 engine, making the hulking Porsche a very quick luxury SUV. "All
components in the alteration are made of high-quality compound fibre
and PU RIM materials and this conforms to the requirements of the
serial components," said Horst Lumma, further indicating that
durability, form stability and perfect surfaces are given high
importance. This kind of quality has its
price too:
according to the customer's needs and optional equipment, the body
conversion costs around €22,000. The height-adjustable chassis
and the special wheels (22-inch - 295/30) add around €12,000 to the price while the powertrain alterations
amount
to a further 20,000 Euros. "But then you have a Cayenne, of which there
are only a handful in the whole world," mused Horst Lumma. |
