Chevrolet Aveo: Korean Design, European Attraction

Motoring Channel Staff - 12/September/2007

Chevrolet Aveo
Will the Chevrolet Aveo become the
new Holden Barina? You can bank on it

Frankfurt, Germany — The successor to the Kalos will be this plucky little number - the Chevrolet Aveo. Set to launch in Europe in March 2008, the new model gets a new design, and is a completely reworked model according to Chevrolet.

The current Aveo/Kalos is sold in Australia as the Holden Barina, so what we see here is almost 100% likely to become the next generation Barina.

The new look exterior will tie the vehicle much closer to the Holden Epica too, as it's headlights are very similar in design. The Daewoo-built Chevrolet-badged Aveo gets a high-class interior, says to the company, and a new more efficient petrol engine.

The Aveo hatchback sports Chevrolet’s new design features, explains the company, which are characterised by the big horizontally split radiator grille with a body-coloured crossbeam and the brand logo sitting prominently in the center.

The dynamic detailing includes large, curved, clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. In profile, the body’s prominent shoulder lines catch the eye, while the back of the car is dominated by the solid bumper and the round tail lamps in a clear-glass housing.

Chevrolet has confirmed that two new petrol engines will be offered in Europe, including a new 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine with 62kW (84hp), and the existing 1.4-litre engine, which gets a power increase to 72kW (98hp). Expect the new Holden Barina to get the latter engine when it arrives in Australia (rumoured to be later in 2008), which will be paired with both auto and manual transmissions.
