Citroen's designers had a mandate to be as creative as they wanted to with the Hypnos

Paris, France —
Citroen's Hypnos is the new SUV crossover concept due to be
dazzling spectators at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. It
looks like any other concept car from the outside, half sports car,
half SUV, and with a number of unique design cues it will set new
standards for Citroen's ongoing design philosophy. However
the first glimpse of the new renderings of the interior would make
anyone think the designers over at Citroen have all dropped some acid
or gone completely mad due to the psychedelic DNA-twisted interior. If it wasn't for the steering wheel you'd think this 6-seater creation was just a rainbow of pretty colours. The
interior sketches look as though seats are secondary to the
flowing design and it will probably call the seats 'pods' and
'enclosures' and imbue them with automatic scent-releasing mechanisms
that play whale song to enable a positive flow of chi. Although
Citroen has a history of the unusual, with the likes of the 1957 2CV or
the DS Pallas which were radical cars when introduced, first glance at
this new model makes you think "it's alright..." given the relatively
conservative look of the exterior. For a concept car the Citroen
Hypnos's exterior, while evocative of a new theme or a new niche model,
is much less dazzling than the interior. Judging by the these official renderings, the Hypnos exterior has more of a sniff of the new BMW X6's styling, with that long sleek look appearing to be the the way of the future with these glamorised people movers. Our
sources say that the big Citroen Hypnos concept is going to be a green
machine with the French car company focusing on reduced fuel
consumption and emissions. Most of
the concept cars appearing at the 2008 Paris Motor Show will
be green machines, as the current mood of consumers is shifting
towards smaller, more efficient vehicles in tandem with approaching
emission limits in major markets like Europe and California in the
States. Engine stats of 147kW (200hp) and fuel consumption of
around 4.5 litres per 100km, while only emitting 120g/km of
CO2, would likely mean that the Hypnos's engine is not just a
normal diesel or petrol unit. This big green machine
is likely to be sporting the latest version of
Citroen's diesel-electric hybrid powertrain, which could see use
in a production car in as little as 18 months time. Another possible
outcome is a hydrogen engine, however this is less likely. Related Links:
