Maranello, Italy -
Ferrari plans to showcase their fastest ever road-going supercar at the
Beijing Motor Show later this month.
The new 599 GTO was developed as an exclusive
limited edition vehicle. Unlike the 599XX experimental track car which
this model is based on, the 599 GTO is road legal.
To give an idea of just how exclusive the 599 GTO
is, only 599 vehicles will be made and reserved for special clients.
Under the bonnet lies a 6.0-litre V12 engine, that pumps out 493 kW of
power and 619 Nm of torque. These figures enable the 1495kg supercar to
accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.35 seconds, before going on to a top
speed of 335 km/h.
Thanks to the revised version of the Enzo-derived
V12 engine, the 599 GTO has set a new track record on Fiorano test
circuit, posting a time of 1 minute 24 seconds - that's a full second
faster than the Ferrari Enzo.
Ferrari has changed the aerodynamics of the
vehicle via a newly designed front bumper, a new front lip spoiler, rear
diffuser and F1 inspired 'wheel doughnuts' (a disc which draws hot air
away from the brake discs).
Ferrari has also shed a few kilograms off the 599
GTO which now features thinner aluminium, thinner glass, carbon-ceramic
disc brakes, a lightweight six-speed transmission (which can shift in
60 milliseconds) and a lighter exhaust system.
The 599 GTO sits on a set of 20-inch rims which
improve overall grip and cornering performance.
Bringing the car to a halt is the new CCM2 braking
system. The new system is not only lighter, but more consistent in high
performance situations. In fact, the 599 GTO can pull up from 100 to 0
km/h in a braking distance of 32.5 metres.
Alongside the obvious exterior changes the
interior features carbon fibre gearshift paddles, a Virtual Race
Engineer (a system that monitors the car's status and gives feedback on
vehicle performance), carbon fibre trim, and a leather/alcantara
steering wheel.
