– Making its debut at this years Frankfurt Motor Show, Fiat has released new photos and details about the 2010 Punto Evo.
The
Fiat Punto Evo is the “evolution of the Grande Punto”. The car is said
to receive a wide range of different engine variants which include, a
second generation 1.3-litre Multijet diesel and a 1.4-litre petrol
engine with the revolutionary MultiAir technology Developed by Fiat
Powertrain Technologies it will eventually incorporated in all Fiat
Group engines.
Joining the engine line up will be a dual fuel
methane engine, which produces 115 g/km of CO2 (making it the most
ecological engine in its segment), as well as a LPG engine that can
travel up to 1,500 km in the extra-urban cycle. Fiat state that
their MultiAir engines produce "more power (up to 10%) and torque (up
to 15%), but consume significantly less (up to 10%) and emitting less
CO2 (up to 10%)" than conventional petrol engines of the same size.
To
help reduce fuel consumption and emissions even further, the new Punto
Evo offers Start&Stop technology, the system switches off and
restarts the engine in stop-and-go traffic. Start&Stop technology
will be introduced as standard on all Euro5 petrol and diesel engines
in the near future.
Also making its debut in the Punto Evo is
"Blue&Me-TomTom", the new portable satellite navigation unit that
lets you manage telephone, navigation and information functions on a
colour touch-screen.
As standard the Fiat Punto Evo comes
with 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag. A range of safety
features will be also available, that including Hill-Holder to help
with hill starts, adaptive 'cornering' front fog lights which dip
according to the angle of steering and ABS, EBD (Electronic Brake force
Distribution) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) systems.
In
the styling department, Fiat have made minor changes to the exterior in
the form of new front and rear bumpers. More noticeable changes have
been applied to the interior which include an updated dash, improved
seats, enlarged storage compartments and better instrumentation.
