Melbourne, Australia — Sporting
a modified suspension setup and a handful of visual modifications, the
F6 R-Spec Typhoon has arrived, priced at $63,310. The high performance 'special edition' is gaining traction with a lot
of local car makers at present, from Subaru's local Tuned By STI
models, to this new R-Spec from Ford Performance Vehicles, partly
because they offer improved performance, but also because of their
rarity; they hold their value very well. Only 300 versions of the F6 R-Spec will be sold. FPV
wasn't going to let HSV's new range of high performance sports sedans
bathe in the limelight forever, and this new model will create increased
levels of interest for what is one of Australia's most powerful
vehicles ever created. The idea behind the new R-Spec model, according to FPV General Manager Rod Barrett, was the positive response to
the GT 40th Anniversary limited edition, which was the first FPV to
feature the R-Spec handling package. In turn, this led to FPV modifying R-Spec for
its turbocharged 4.0-litre 6-cylinder Typhoon. "The initial idea behind R-Spec was to
provide an FPV vehicle for those people who wanted to be more
competitive at track days and club sprint events, but who didn’t want
to compromise on the comfort of daily driving either," explained Mr Barrett. "The
GT 40th Anniversary succeeded in fitting that brief, and now for the
first time our customers can enjoy the same superior level of
suspension and handling on our award-winning Typhoon model," Mr Barret said. He
stated that FPV has now customised the R-Spec package to maximise the
handling
characteristics of the Typhoon, which will allow drivers of the limited
edition
F6 R-Spec to extract the best possible performance out of their
vehicle, which will suit those drivers who take their performance cars
on the race track. Mr Barrett said, "The
set-up on the F6 is different to our Boss 290 package to account for
the different mass of the Typhoon. The most significant change has been
to the front end damper tune. Importantly, we have maintained
an impressive level of ride comfort. The R-Spec package picks up more
road irregularities, however, we have maintained the supple ride that
has earned FPV cars an enviable ride and handling reputation." The
road test crew put the F6 Typhoon through it's pace in 2006, and gave
it a positive overall ranking of 4 out of 5, with an exceptionally high
4.5 out of 5 score for the engine and gearbox combination. The review
can be found here. As
well as the new track-biased suspension tune, the new addition to the
FPV stable is identified with distinctive R-Spec badging, and 'Dark
Argent' gunmetal accents on the wheels and rear spoiler as standard.
Being a limited edition, FPV will also include a unique build
certificate of authenticity with the new R-Spec models. Inside
the FPV F6 R-Spec, leather sports seats as standard, as are FPV
floor
mats with the "F6 R-spec" logo inlay to match match the exterior
badging. Other interior features includean iPod/MP3 audio player
connection fitted as standard, which integrates with the FPV audio
system. Ford
Performance Vehicles has indicated that the F6 R-Spec will be available
in Winter White, Lightning Strike, Vixen, Neo, Ego and Silhouette
colours. It will be offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed
automatic transmission and is priced at $63,310. Engine Specifications:
