– Allow me to introduce the G-Power X5 Typhoon, dubbed the most powerful SUV money can buy. For
drivers itching to get their hands on the upcoming 'M' division's high
performance BMW X5, this vehicle will leave you stricken. In all probability, the Typhoon is likely to be faster and generally better than the X5 'M', which has not yet been released. The thing that was music to my ears with this X5 model was that G-Power had not only given the BMW X5 a dramatic face lift and crazy wide-body kit, but also the power output to back up it's demonic street presence. G-power has integrated an ASA T1-521 hd supercharger to BMW's 4.8-liter V8 to elevate power into the super car realm. The supercharger uses a centrifugal clutch and G-Power says the kit is flanged to the engine using a
CNC-milled high-strength mount. The compressor is driven by the
crankshaft via a cogged belt and boost
pressure is limited to 0.6 bars or 8.7 psi. The engine also gets a 2-piece carbon fibre intake
manifold and a 'generously dimensioned'
aluminium intercooler to ensure a cool flow of air reaches the engine. But thats not all. To help boost power output yet further, new engine mapping software and high-flow fuel injectors lift the BMW X5's power to a staggering 386kW (525hp) and 600Nm of torque. This represents a huge 127kW and 125Nm of torque over the factory kit. Here's the vitals: Power: 386kW @ 6100rpm
Torque: 600Nm @
5300rpm
Fuel Economy: Extreme
The Typhoon package also comes complete with a custom stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with high-flow catalysts, which is exclusive to G-Power the company tells us. With all this power, how fast is the modded X5? Well, BMW's standard V8-powered X5 accelerates from 0-100km in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 210km, but with G-Power's Typhoon package the numbers tell quite a different story: it sprints from 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and hitting a top speed of 275 km/h. This makes it one of the fastest SUVs ever created, rivalling Porsche's twin turbo V8 Cayenne. Along with the added power comes new styling, brought to you by an extensive body kit that features some rather menacing or silly lines, depending on whether you like this kind of thing. An overtly showy front bumper gains huge air intakes and the some massively flared fenders make the G-Power Typhoon wider and also help tuck the Silverstone forged edition wheels under the car. The wheels are B.I.G, with diameters of 11x23-inches at the front and 12x23-inches at the rear. They are fitted with hardcore Michelin tyres with 315/25 ZR23 aspect ratios front
and back. It's always nice to know you've got that much grip when packing that much power, which reminds me of an old saying "there's nothings worse than ice skating without a hot dog". Taking a quick stroll around the rear of the vehicle you will notice the same flared guards bulging out like a fat kid on a bike. The Typhoon also features a diffuser, new rear apron, and two massive center-mounted exhaust pipes measuring in at face-slapping 11.4cm. It
even come with LED ground lights to illuminate the ground where
passengers must step to get into the vehicle (and they make they look
like it's "floating" when it drives along). We couldn't obtain photos, but G-Power says the interior has been redesigned. The highly modified BMW X5's cockpit "can be upgraded with exclusive accessories such as an
ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel, a TYPHOON-design speedometer
and a number of sporty aluminum accessories" says G-Power. The German tuner will also take "requests for an even
more customized interior" upholstered in leather and
Alcantara "in any color imaginable". I'm thinking a black exterior with a hot pink leather interior would attract attention. Background: G-Power is a German tuning group that has been
