Galpin Auto Sports (or GAS) was known as Galpin Ford in its early years
and was founded by Frank Galpin in 1946. Galpin
Auto Sports is based out of Van Nuys, California and are better know
for their work on the hit television show 'Pimp My Ride' on MTV, hosted
by rapper Xzibit. The Galpin Auto Sports, known for
their outrageous customized cars on 'Pimp My Ride' and the famous KITT
in the 2008 series Knight Rider, has now joined forces with the United
states Air Force to create, what is supposed to be used as a recruiting
tool, two heavily customized cars for the 2009 Super Car Tour - both
cars are a masterpiece in their own right. The
first of the two vehicles is know as 'X-1' and is based on the new Ford
Mustang. The Ford Mustang X-1 is coated in a matte-pearlescent
finish. The Ford Mustang
X-1 features a 'fighter-jet' style interior with it's very own
single-driver ejection seat situated in the centre of the car. It
also has a short shift stick and advanced instrument panel that is so
technical that even Einstein would be confused. The Ford Mustang
X-1 also has a motorized steering wheel, a GPS transponder and a touch
screen monitor that displays night and thermal vision. A 4.6L V8 breaths life into the Ford Mustang
X-1. It has 3-valve Ford Racing heads, a cold air-intake, hot rod
cams and long tube headers. With these modifications the 4.6L V8 manges
372kW. Next
on the agenda is the 'Vapor' which is based on the Dodge Challenger.
The Dodge Challenger Vapor has a stealth-black paint job that
looks like a stealth bomber. The Dodge Challenger
Vapor features one-off custom carbon fibre wheels, shaker bonnet,
radar-absorbing paint, proximity sensors and a 360- degree camera with
a 400 metre range.
Opening the vertical doors to the Dodge Challenger
Vapor reveals the aircraft style interior with aircraft inspired
controls, passenger side steering wheel, GPS tracking, night and
thermal vision on the front windshield. But thats not all, to keep that 'stealth bomber' feel going, the Dodge Challenger
Vapor has a special custom stealth exhaust mode that allows you to
drive the Challenger in complete silence, but the driver can open the
headers to create that aggressive engine noise. The Dodge Challenger
Vapor also has an advanced computer system with remote UAV control,
which means you can access the car from anywhere in the world using the
internet. To add authenticity, the Vapor also comes with two custom flight helmets. Galpin
Auto Sports have done a great job on both cars and in sticking to
the Air Force theme, Galpin's creations mimic the stylings of a
fighter jet quite well. Both
vehicles will be featured during a marketing campaign by the U.S. Air
Force to recruit and educate young people on the mechanical and
technical career opportunities available. Related Links: - Ford Mustang
