Valencia, Spain
– Powered by a
supercharged version of the Dodge Viper's monstrous 8.3-litre V10
engine, this Spanish super car has grand plans to rewrite the
performance rule book. With more than 580
kilowatts of power hitting the large 20-inch rear wheels via
manual or automatic 7-speed gearboxes, the GTA Spano is Spain's fastest
car and in the top 10 of the world's fastest sports cars. Featuring a mid-mounted V10 engine that pushes just 1350kg of mass, the car can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds. The engine generates 582kW (780hp) @ 6300rpm and a gut-wrenching 920Nm of torque. The
GTA Spano's top speed is around 350km/h (217mph) thanks to a
combination of extreme engine power and the car's aerodynamic bodywork,
which results in an excellent drag co-efficient of 0.35. Aside from the insane performance, the GTA Spano has a number of surprises (for a super car). For example it features two cargo areas that make it more practical than most of its exotic rivals. The
typical rear trunk is there, with 200 litres of space, while a second
storage area of 100 litres is accessible via the hood, allowing drivers
more scope for overnight trips. The Spanish
car maker claims that the Spano will suit all sizes, even drivers that
are more than 6'5" tall! We'll believe that one when we see it... Inside the car features leather sport seats, a
digital dashboard, satellite navigation, CD/MP3 stereo
with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, plus air conditioning and
electric windows. The GTA Spano also
benefits from a rear view camera and side-view camera, an electric sun
visor, electric handbrake and a patented glass roof that features an auto opaqueness system. Some
other neat tricks include a a joystick that is located behind the
steering wheel to activate lights, wipers and indicators and
unique interior lighting that uses LED technology to create a
sophisticated ambiance. This exotic sports car was styled by a guy called Sento
Pallardó whose aim it was 'to create an unique automobile that does not
resemble other cars in any way'. The
2-door, 2-seater super car measures 4.65 metres long, 1.98 metres wide
and 1.2 metres high, encompassing an exotic design that leaves no
secret of this car's reason for being. From
the ultra-low and sharply styled front end with its boldly simple
design to the wing mirrors attached by thin stalks, there's no
mistaking the GTA Spano's purpose. Two
large air intakes dominate the bold front end with its LED livery
surrounding the xenon headlights. Arguably it's best angle is the front
end. The side view looks very aggressive,
with a swoopish theme that extends from a low point at the bottom of
the front doors and up towards the rear wing, the latter of which is
electronically adjustable to maximise downforce, rear end grip, and
stability. This Spanish speedster
looks like it was created in a wind tunnel, which could be one
reason for the extreme rear design which is dominated by vents, air
ducts, and a largely scalloped central roof section that drops away to
a very low point below the adjustable rear wing. Another
interesting feature of the GTA Spano is its lack of door handles.
Drivers gain entry to the interior by touching the GTA logo on the
doors. Crafted from titanium, Kevlar and carbon fibre, the Spano is ultra-light but also ultra-rigid and features an adjustable suspension system to suit different driving types. The suspension system can also increase the cars ride height in order to safely navigate steep driveways or speed bumps. As
well as an advanced suspension setup, this Spanish challenger boasts
massive 380mm carbon ceramic disc brakes, which are seen to by equally
imposing 6-piston AP Racing calipers. At the front axle of the GTA Spano are 19-inch alloy wheels and at the rear 20-inchers, shod with Pirelli rubber measuring 255/35 and 335/30 respectively. With
more than 900Nm of torque being channelled to the rear wheels of what
is a 1350kg vehicle, the car has a number of traction control systems
to aid grip, but these can be turned off if the driver so desires. Powered
by a blown version of the Dodge Viper's V10 engine, the GTA Spano could
help put Spain on the supercar map if fit, finish and reliability prove
to be up to the task. How much? You won't get much change from $1.5 million.
