Sydney, Australia —
It's not often we overlook home grown special edition special vehicles
here at the Motoring Channel, but somehow two HSV limited edition
models slipped through the cracks. Sitting alongside the
ClubSport R8 Tourer (based on the Sportwagon) and the W427 at
the 2008 Australian International Motor Show last month were two
HSV special editions models: Why
has HSV released these limited edition models? It's celebrating its
40th birthday, which is a very big deal for the niche sports car tuner. "We're celebrating 40 years of GTS with a special
commemorative model as well as unveiling a Senator Signature SV08,"
said HSV's chief, Phil Harding. "The
SV08 introduces the new TR6060 manual gearbox to our range, which will
become standard across the HSV model line-up later this month. HSV
also has plans to deliver improvements in fuel saving technologies
(related to Holden's EcoLine and Active Fuel Management strategies)
that will improve HSV's products by providing lower running costs. "Our customers expect us to be at the cutting edge of new technologies," Harding said. He added: "While
demand for our product still remains strong, HSV is committed to
exploring alternative fuel technologies and powertrain concepts that
will keep our company at the forefront of performance motoring in this
country." HSV Senator Signature SV08A
throwback to the SV88 model that was introduced 20 years ago, the new
HSV Senator Signature SV08 is powered by a 317kW 6.2-litre V8 engine
sourced from Chevrolet. With HSV modifications it generates 550Nm of torque @ 4600rpm. Holden Special Vehicles has built just 50 versions of the Senator Signature
SV08, limited to 20 manual and 30 automatic models. Priced from $82,700, the SV08 gets a conservative new look thanks to lower paint-outs, sill plates and additional chrome accenting
on the side mirrors and door handles, plus 20-inch Pentagon wheels. HSV GTSIt
was 40 years ago that the GTS badge first appeared on a 1968 HK Monaro,
and the famous badge first adorned an HSV in 1992 on the 200 kilowatt
VP Commodore-based GTS. HSV has created a limited run of 100 special edition GTS sports cars to commemorate 40 years of the GTS. These
models gets black 'heritage' stripes, tyre pressure monitors and a
commemorative '40 years of GTS' logo embedded on the headrest, brake
caliper, sill plate and rear panel of the car. The price of the limited edition HSV GTS is $80,170, and is available only in Sting Red and Heron White colours.
