Detroit, America —
Australian drivers have had a long and successful relationship with the
utility. It's a decades old accord that ensures vehicles like the
Holden Ute, the Ford Falcon Ute, the Toyota Hilux, and the Mitsubishi Triton are consistently on must-have lists. Often
kitted out with 4WD transmissions, large trays, and big towing
capabilities, they are some of the most practical vehicles on the road. But what would long-time ute buyers make of the H3T, which is about to be released in the United States? The
Hummer H3's brazen image has been married with the practicality of a
rear tray, which will be good news for land owners and those who need to shift motorbikes and heavy gear. Though it won't be the largest pick-up truck to ever grace
North American roads, it will be a head-turner thanks to it's iconic
design. Based on the H3 underpinnings, the H3T gets the new rear end that includes a 1.5 metre long tray. It still has four doors and seating for five passengers, but has a longer wheelbase than the H3 SUV. Power
options include the same Vortec 3.7-litre 5-cylinder petrol engine that
Australian buyers get in the Hummer H3 SUV, and also a 5.3-litre V8. The inline 5-cylinder engine outputs 183kW @ 5600rpm and 328Nm of torque 4600rpm. If
you need more power for shifting heavy materials or towing, the new
H3T's optional V8 engine will be appealing. It develops an increased
227kW (304hp) and 443Nm of torque, and is capable of towing almost
2,700kg. Hummer's H3 is known for it's off-road abilities and the
longer H3T is expected to offer 4WD enthusiasts similar
levels of ruggedness. As well as being a full-time 4WD vehicle,
the H3T can also be equipped with an Off-Road Adventure package that
adds heavy duty tyres, locking front and rear diffs, plus low-range gearing (4.03:1) and a few other options. It is unclear whether the vehicle will be coming to Australia at this stage. Related
