Seoul, South Korea
– Hyundai plan to
introduce a new turbocharged 3-cylinder, 800cc engine into its i10
mini car next year. The new engine will produce around 68kW (90 bhp)
and will produce less than 100 g/km CO2 emissions. Back in 2008
Hyundai displayed a similar engine at the Geneva motor show with its
Hyundai i10 Blue CNG concept. Although the engine used compressed
natural gas, rather than petrol it produced only 65 g/km CO2 emissions,
while maximum power output was 72kW (97 bhp). Hyundai have opted
for a straight petrol/gasoline powered engine for its i10 i-Blue,
probably because the demand for compressed natural gas isn't as
great and would most likely fare better in todays market place. Likely
to be dubbed the i10 i-Blue, the new model will receive a minor
cosmetic facelift, which we will see across the entire i10 range, the
move is likely to boost sales of the already popular Indian-built
Korean hatch.
The i10 i-Blue will make its debut early 2010.
Rumors say that the starting price will top the i10 range, placing it
above the current range-topping 1.2 Style which costs £8300 in the U.K.
($16,398AUD). But prices aren't tipped to be too high, as Hyundai
benefits from low production costs on the i10 which is built in India
and will likely offset those costs further by using the 800cc,
turbocharged 3-cylinder engine in other Hyundai models and sister
company Kia’s future models. Related Links: - Hyundai
