Sant'Agata
Bolognese,
Italy
–
Lamborghini has just released official details of it's sinister
open-top two-seater Reventón Roadster.
This moving
sculpture follows a long history of open-top supercars, which spans
over 40 years. Starting in 1968, Lamborghini built a Miura without a
fixed roof as a one-off and have since continued to build on its
success.
Built mainly
from carbon fibre and high-strength steel the Reventón Roadsters design
evokes thoughts of a Stealth Jet bomber, with its sharp angular nose,
intimidating air intakes, large side skirts and upwards opening
transformer doors.
The Reventón
Roadster makes use of bi-xenon technology, while LEDs are used for
daytime running lights, indicators and the rear lights.
The exterior
paintwork is finished in a special matt colour, called Reventón Grey
(which only added to the Stealth Jet styling), while the wheels of the
Reventón Roadster also incorporate the use of matt and glossy elements.
According to
Lamborghini, the Reventón Roadsters “bodyshell” is extremely ridged, so
converting it into Roadster form requires only minor reinforcement,
keeping weight to just 1690kg, compared to the 1665kg of the
coupe, which is only 25kg more.
Measuring in at
4.7m long, 2.1m wide, 1.1m high and the wheelbase is 2.7m the Reventón
Roadster sure looks menacing.
Stephan
Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said, "The
Reventón is the most extreme car in the history of the brand."
"The new
Roadster adds an extra emotional component to our combined
technological expertise – it unites superior performance with the
sensual fascination of open-top driving.” added Mr.Winkelmann.
The Reventón
Roadster makes use of Lamborghini's 6.5-litre 48-valve naturally
aspirated V12, which produces 493kW (670hp) at 8,000rpm and a maximum
torque figure of 660Nm (487 lb-ft) at 6,000rpm.
Lamborghini claim the the Roadster can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.4
seconds before hitting a top speed of 330km/h (205mph). Power
is fed to all four wheels thanks to the Viscous Traction permanent
all-wheel drive system.
The interior
features two transreflective and one transmissive LCDs (which can be
switched from analogue to digital view at any time), carbon
fibre dashboard, aluminium instruments and Alcantara and leather seats.
Only 20
Lamborghini Reventón Roadsters will be built at the company's
Sant'Agata Bolognese plant in Bologna and will be priced at €1.1
million (AUD $2,300,000), which is the price you pay for such an
exclusive vehicle.
