The LFA has a naturally
aspirated V10 engine

Aichi, Japan - Lexus has officially released details of its highly anticipated supercar after information was leaked on the internet just days before its official debut at this years Tokyo Motor Show.

So without further ado, meet the Lexus LFA. This new supercar from Lexus is powered by a naturally aspirated V10 displacing 4.8 litre (4,805cc). Because of its aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and titanium alloy construction the V10 from Lexus is actually lighter than a normal V8 engine.

The Lexus LFA produces 412kW at 8,700rpm and 480Nm of torque at 6,800rpm. Power is provided to the rear wheels via a 6-speed ASG transmission, featuring heavy-duty synchroniser rings and a newly developed gearshift actuator. A Torsen LSD distributes torque across the rear wheels.

Redlining at 9000rpm, the LFA is capable of going 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and before hitting a top speed of 325km/h.

The 'racecar' sound can be accredited to its equal-length exhaust manifolds that are mated to an equal-length dual exhaust system which is routed through a multistage titanium main muffler.

Lexus's new supercar weighs in at 1480kg. This is achieved by using carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for 65 percent of its body. This is said to be 100kg lighter than an equivalent aluminium body.

Handling for the Lexus LFA is dealt with via a double wishbone front suspension and a multilink system at the rear. Brakes are carbon ceramic for better stopping performance. All this sits on 20-inch BBS wheels, wrapped in265/35 ZR20 Bridgestone tyres up front, and 305/30 ZR20 tyres at the rear.

Aerodynamic elements include a flat underbody, a rear diffuser and a speed-controlled rear wing.

Only 500 units will be sold worldwide. Lexus will begin taking order in December 2010. Estimated price is said to be around US$375,000.
