Norfolk, United Kingdom - The most sinister looking of vehicles, the Lotus Exige Scura is set to make its debut at this years Tokyo Motor Show.

Scura means'dark' in Italian so it isn't hard to see why this latest version of the Lotus Exige was given the name. The dramatic matt black with high gloss ‘Phantom Black' triple stripes and carbon fibre theme and stealth bomber like characteristics give the Scura a menacing presence.

With a limited run of just 35 vehicles worldwide, the Lotus Exige Scura will be very exclusive.

The Exige Scura features enhanced performance and a reduction in weight from the production level Exige S, delivering the ultimate Lotus experience.

Luke Bennett, Director of Lotus Cars had this to say, “The Exige Scura is a stunning vehicle which offers an adrenaline fuelled experience and is a real head-turner! Our Exige customers choose Lotus because we deliver thrilling performance and dynamic design and this special edition fits the bill on both counts.”

The exterior features lightweight carbon fibre components such as a front splitter, oil cooler inlet vanes, side air scoops and a rear spoiler. The use of carbon fibre is also present in the interior with its sports seats and the centre console.

All carbon fibre components have been finished in a high-gloss clear lacquer which allows the weave pattern to remain exposed giving the cabin a raw and racy feel and also helps shed 10kg overall.

The Lotus Exige Scura is powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged VVTL-i engine making 191kW at 8000rpm and 236Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox the Exige Scura can sprint from 0 – 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 245km/h.

Lotus has used the Lotus Launch Control and Lotus Traction Control systems originally developed for the Exige GT3 racing program.

The Exige Scura returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 8.5 litres per 100km on the EU cycle while emitting 199 g/km of C02 gases.

Roger Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, had this to say about the performance of the Exige Scura, “There are very few cars in the world that turn in the performance of the Exige Scura without the penalty of very high fuel consumption and emissions. As with all Lotus sportscars we offer the best of both worlds – a zero to 100 km/h time of just over 4 seconds and a CO2 figure of 199 g/km; all this is down to light weight and a strict adherence to Lotus’ core brand values.”

The Lotus name has always been synonymous with handling performance, but to make sure of it the Exige Scura borrows the suspension components from the Exige Cup 260, including the lightweight flywheel and lightweight supercharger pipework. Throw in the Ohlins two way adjustable dampers and Eibach Springs with variable height spring platforms, unique matt black lightweight forged wheels and super sticky Yokohama A048 LTS tyres and you have a top class handling machine.

Lotus has begun taking orders this month for the ‘Lotus Exige Scura’ in Europe, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
