2008 Mazda6: Moving & Shaking Motoring Channel Staff - 8/August/2007 | The all-new Mazda6 will rival vehicles like the Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord Euro and the popular Toyota Camry

Hiroshima, Japan — The Mazda6 has been one of Mazda's most successful cars, and the
second generation model is expected to cause quite a stir in the
mid-sized segment. With what can only be described as a 'premium'
face, Mazda has released the first teaser photo of the new 2008 Mazda6,
and like the Honda Accord Euro the design is far more elegant than the
previous model, with stronger visual links to the RX-8 sports car. Mazda
has confirmed it will showcase the all-new Mazda6 (known as the Mazda
Atenza in Japan) at the 62nd annual Frankfurt Motor Show to be held
from Tuesday, September 11. We'll bring you all the details as it
happens, rest assured, complete with the Editor's frank opinion of the
new model. Mazda has not divulged much of the new model, leaving
that for the official launch in Germany next month, but we do know that
it's a full redesign: new chassis, new exterior body panels, new
technology, and potentially new engines too. Xenon headlights
will be available on range-topping models, though it's not yet clear if
the company will still develop a high-performance turbocharged
MPS/Mazdaspeed version. The Japanese company says that the
all-new Mazda6 is "a full redesign of Mazda’s first model to embody the
Zoom-Zoom product philosophy" and that it will offer a thrilling drive.
Following the all-new Mazda2,
the new Mazda6 is the second Mazda new generation product to evolve to
the next stage says the company, further deepening the emotional
connection between man and machine, something Mazda terms “Kizuna”. Inheriting
Mazda’s tradition of responsive handling and performance that has
become recognized around the world and evolving the original model’s
distinctive design and exceptional functionality, Mazda says the
"all-new Mazda6 takes a step forward in quality and offers strengthened
environmental and safety performance". Diesel power is a must
for the car's European sales to remain strong, and the "strengthened
environmental" performance that Mazda hints at could mean a hybrid
Mazda6 is in the wings. Related
