Stuttgart, Germany –
With embargoes being broken left right and centre by the global
motoring media, the idea of the leak is now part and parcel of everyday
motoring news. This week's big leak is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, which was uncovered by AutoBlog.nl. The leaked images appear to be from a brochure, adding to the glamour of the new model which will replace the CLK. Using the front-end design of the recently unveiled E-Class sedan, the new German coupe shows off a sportier style with its sloping roof line and aggressive stance. With 2-doors and only four seats, this is not a family car. Mercedes
is hoping to appeal to a younger audience with its all-new E-Class and
renaming and revising the coupe model will go a long way towards
achieving this. The price will need to be very competitive if
Mercedes wants to attract younger buyers, particularly during the
worsening financial crisis, but the German car maker is making the
right moves to entice new types of drivers. Like
the sedan version of the E-Class, the leaked coupe displays the
sharp-looking double headlight clusters, underneath which sit
avant-garde LED fog lights. It
appears as though the model shown features an AMG kit, which includes
larger wheels and an aero effects body kit, which give a sporty, solid
grounding. As well as side skirts, the E-Class Coupe boasts a
rear diffuser to mollify the turbulent air flow exiting underneath the
vehicle. But one of the best design elements of the leaked E-Class Coupe would have to be its new profile. The
coupe's shape and profile looks very clean and sharp and more
aggressive than the previous CLK model, which was a smoother, curvier
design. It does have a smoothly curved roofline like the CLK
model before it but the sharper, more angular front and rear styling
cues give it teeth. Interestingly, the brake lights which look a
dated on the sedan integrate far better on the E-Class Coupe, giving
the rear end a more modern appearance than its 4-door sibling. Interior
photos of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe have also been leaked,
and it looks like the European prestige car company is going all out to
create an opulent cabin. From the heavily cushioned leather
sports seats to the sporty-looking instrument dials with
chronometer-style instrument dials with patterned chrome finishes to
the three spoke multi-function steering wheel, the view form the
drivers seat looks luxurious. The dashboard has a two tone finish
with timber accents for good measure and like other E-Class models the
Coupe will be a technology leader with a range of new gadgets. Chief
among the list will be the Lane Safety package and Blind Spot Assist
system, which inform drivers if there's vehicle/s in their blind spots
or if they're veering out of their lane without indicating. There's
also the a new Speed Limit Assist system, which can identify speed
limit signs and display them on the speedometer for up-to-the-mile
legal limits. Like
the Mercedes E-Class sedan it will also have up-to-date safety systems
with multiple air bags for all four occupants and other advanced
pre-crash and warning functionality. The
official unveiling of the sophisticated Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe
will take place at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in Europe in March. Related Links:
