Mission R
The electric powertrain
|
California, United States
- Mission Motors was founded in 2007,
formerly known as Hum Cycles, with the aim of creating
high-performance, electric motorcycles. In early 2009, the California
based company revealed the prototype for their first vehicle, the
Mission One at the TED conference.
Now, introducing the Mission R, the new factory
race bike from Mission Motors. The Mission R is the most advanced
electric racing motorcycle in the world. With components and software
from MissionEVT, a revolutionary chassis design by James Parker, and
cutting edge industrial design by Tim Prentice of Motonium Design.
Powering the Mission R is an advanced MissionEVT powertrain that packs
105kW of power and 14.4 kWh of energy storage in a package smaller than
a 600cc sportbike. The liquid-cooled AC Induction motor produces 155Nm
of torque the moment the rider pulls back on the throttle, rocketing
the bike from a standstill to over 250Km/h in one gear. Power is
managed by the MissionEVT 100kW motor controller, with customizable
regenerative braking maps, throttle maps and more. All vehicle and ride
data is accessible via WiFi or 3G connections.
MotoGP-spec components are also used, from Öhlins, Brembo, and
Marchesini round out this built-for-racing package.
Putting the superbike technology on the track is the ultimate
R&D test bed. The Mission R was built to race, and everything
the company learns from racing is applied to its street superbikes and
MissionEVT powertrains.
The popularity of electric motorcycle racing has grown around the
world. The 2011 racing season will bring more fans, more tracks, more
teams, and more races than ever before. Mission Motors is returning to
the racetrack for the 2011 Season.
Mission's advances in reliability, energy and power density, battery
management electronics, and vehicle management software all come from
an obsession with lower lap times. These advances improve both street
superbikes and MissionEVT powertrains.
Mission Motors is not just racing to win, but also racing to advance
the state of the art of electric powertrains. Pushing the envelope for
what is possible with electric drive shapes not only the future of
motorsports, but the future of transportation.
