 New Holland NH2: Hydrogen Tractor
The NH2 Hydrogen Tractor has a fuel tank to last it between 1.5 and 2 hours
|
USA – Hydrogen fuel cell and electric vehicles are the future of automotion, but what about agricultural vehicles? New
Holland has presented a new hydrogen fuel-cell tractor powered by an
electric motor that will see farmers peering in for a closer look. Only
a prototype at this stage, New Holland's NH2 is a look into the future
of farming and if the vehicles could be equipped with computer programs
to drive themselves, farmers would be able to run more efficient
businesses. The zero emissions NH2 tractor uses a hydrogen fuel
cell stack that creates the energy/electricity to run an 80kW (106hp)
electric motor with instant torque. The four-wheel drive vehicle
would have to be fuelled with hydrogen and with much farm equipment
needing to be run for 10+ hours at a time this fuel system could be
problematic in terms of refuelling. Currently the hydrogen tank holds enough fuel to run the NH2 tractor for around 90 minutes. New Holland says that it expects the vehicle will be on sale by 2013.
