Porsche are calling it “the most sporting 911 yet”, the new 2010
Porsche 911 GT3 RS has made it's official debut at the
Frankfurt Motor Show this week.
The 2010
Porsche 911 GT3 RS is powered by the same naturally-aspirated 3.8 litre
flat six found in the previous GT3, however the new GT3 RS has a slight
power increase from 320kW to 335kW.
A wider front
and back gives the new RS even greater grip and a larger carbon-fibre
wing on aluminium brackets has been added to the rear which helps to
produce a total downforce figure of 160kg at 300km/h.
The 3.8 litre
flat six powertrain is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission
optimised for short gearshift travel, low weight and high efficiency.
There is no option for an automatic transmission. Further cementing the
new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS as a street legal race car.
Engineered
specifically for performance throughout the rev range, the transmission
in the GT3 RS has been set up with shorter ratios than those found in
the GT3.
The GT3 RS has
dynamic engine mounts which automatically adjust the stiffness and
damping effect to suit driving conditions.
The PASM
suspension ensures sporty handling and precise corner turn-in. The 911
GT3 RS also gains some 19×9-inch wheels for the front and 19×12-inch
rear wheels, which helps get all that power to the road.
Porsche's main
objective was to strip out all the unnecessary weight, that's why the
2010 GT3 RS will feature a lithium-ion starter battery instead of the
standard lead-acid unit, reducing weight by a further 10kg.
Brand-new body
graphics, a hallmark of the GT3 and GT3 RS, are also present on the
2010 model, with the body being finished in a gray. A bright red
tone is used for accents such as the checkered flag, side skirt stripe
and the GT3RS decal down the left hand side of the vehicle.
German sales
begin in January, with a €122,400 euro price tag, tax not included.
Porsche has
also released this new video filmed at and around Frankfurt in light of
the new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
