Look at all that suede

Tokyo, Japan
- Subaru has announced that it will be releasing a special edition
Impreza WRX STI, which is set to make its debut at this years upcoming
Tokyo Motor Show.
This new special edition is called the Subaru WRX
STI Carbon and is based on the STI A-Line model.
The WRX STI Carbon features a carbon
fibre roof which helps to lower the car’s centre of gravity and reduce
weight for better performance. The interior gets some new suede
treatment that covers the steering wheel, dash, door trims and the
Recaro seats. The special edition WRX also gets a five-speed automatic transmission that is borrowed
from the Liberty 2.5 GT – which means there will be no manual on offer.
This all adds to the ever present 'softening' of
the once hardcore image of the traditional STI's. The automatic
transmission was introduced so that a wider range of customers would be
able to experience the car's performance.
Nothing has been said about the vehicles engine
but we assume that the STI Carbon will come with Subaru's 2.5-litre
turbocharged boxer engine that produces 221kW (300hp) and a maximum
torque of 407Nm.
