Toyota Rukus

Rectangular lines and flat surfaces create a boxy shape for the Rukus

The Rukus is a unique alternative to normal sport or utility wagons
|
Australia - Toyota
has launched its head-turning Rukus in Australia - the brand describes this new
vehicle as a "hot and hip urban alternative to small sports-utility
vehicles and sports wagons". The new Rukus certainly challenges the
'norms' of car design with rectangular lines and flat surfaces that
create a brazenly boxy shape which has become iconic.
Rukus is the first all-new addition to Toyota's
local line-up (as distinct from a replacement or derivative) since the
first Kluger was launched in 2003.
Prices start at $27,490* with buyers able to
customise their Rukus in three equipment grades known as Build 1, Build
2 and Build 3.
Every Rukus features a 2.4-litre four cylinder
engine that has a maximum power of 123kW and consumes just 8.8-litres
per 100km (based on ADR 81/02 combined cycle).
Standard safety features include six airbags,
stability and traction control and anti-skid disc brakes.
Other features in every Rukus include
air-conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, keyless entry
and ignition, power mirrors and windows and an engine immobiliser.
Build 1 includes a six speaker sound system,
Bluetooth hands-free telephone and audio streaming, USB and 3.5mm audio
input and a CD player.
Build 2 offers leather-accented seats, steering
wheel and gearshift knob, a nine speaker sound system including a
sub-woofer, and there's a six CD-stacker plus a 4.3-inch colour screen
for the audio. While the aircon gains climate-control and push-button
operation.
And sitting at the top-of-the-range is Build 3
which adds a power tilt-and-slide moonroof.
Toyota plans to sell 150-200 units a month - an
important but relatively low-volume opportunity.
Toyota expects many owners to dress up their cars,
expressing their individuality by making their car stand out. They can start with Toyota Genuine
accessories, which include a range of decals - stripes, flames and
bricks - and other custom touches.
The 2010 Toyota Rukus will go on sale in Australia from June 1. Pricing is as follows:
Build 1: $27,490
Build 2: $29,990
Build 3: $31,790
