London, England
– Famous German sports and
race car company Veritas has confirmed it will be officially revealing
its new RS III speedster at the exclusive 2009 Salon Prive Motor Show
in London. The Veritas RS III is an amazing looking machine, almost fish-like with its dorsal fin and thin-lipped 'mouth'. It evokes thoughts of the very stylish 2009 Mercedes-McLaren SLR Sir Sterling Moss Edition but is cooler because it's not a Mercedes. Unlike the Mercedes-McLaren SLR Sir Sterling Moss Edition, which costs $1.5-million and is available only to current SLR owners, the RS III will cost around £250,000, which isn't bad for a full-blown speed machine with slick designs. So you could buy one of these and a luxury yacht for the price of the open-top Mercedes SLR sportser. Essentially the Veritas RS III is a modern interpretation of the classic World War II Veritas
racing cars of the 1950s era, for which the company was very famous
and had won many a race - much to BMW's anger because Veritas was using
BMW engines at the time. With
a virtual disappearance from motor racing and automotive scene
for nearly 50 years, a small company known as Vermot AG plan on
"resurrecting" the Veritas name with the stunning RS III which is already being driven by a lucky few in Europe. The Veritas weighs in at just 1,170kg, due to the extensive use of carbon fiber. A complete
lack of modern driving aids also help keep the overall weight down. And
also makes it a tyre-burning freak of the road. No anti-lock brakes or traction control – not even power brakes are included which help the RS III stay true to it's heritage - a pure race car unconfined by electronic driving aids. Propelling
the the RS III into motion is a BMW 5.0-liter V10 that rustles up
447kW, but if that sounds like a little too much gusto then there
is the 4.0-liter V8 with 357kW which is also BMW's property. But how's this: the V10-powered Veritas RS III accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds reaching a top speed of 347km/h! That's face-mashingly fast, which is why most people would were a stack hat when driving the car. On the lower scale, the V8-powered Veritas takes 3.6 seconds to reach 100km/h and has a top speed of 329km/h, which is still brutally quick. Vermot AG has plans to produce around 50 Veritas RS III units per year.
