Las Vegas, America —
Volkswagen's new Passat CC model is set for an early 2009 launch in
Australia. But before it makes its debut Down Under the company has released a
concept version to whet the appetites of the performance lovers. Shown at the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas, the Performance CC was designed by the Volkswagen Design Center in
California together with APR, LLC, Recaro,
H&R Suspension and Brembo North America. The
concept car offers the best of both worlds in terms of performance
and economy, by using a push-button system to change power output
levels and "ups the performance ante in luxury [cars] for the people". According to Volkswagen, the CC Eco Performance Concept
"will get hearts racing" with its heavily modified 2.0-litre TSI engine
that has a maximum output of 232kW (311hp). The
crew at Volkswagen's Design Centre in California took the 4-cylinder
TSI engine and 2.0L TSI engine and upgraded the turbo, adding an APR
stage
3 turbocharger system with three performance levels. While
maximum power of 232kW (311hp) and 424Nm of torque is available in
'Full Power' mode, the Passat CC-based concept car also has 'GT' and
'Eco' modes that output 188kW (252hp) and 165kW (222hp) respectively. The
concept car offers massive performance from its small 4-cylinder
2.0-litre engine, but in 'Eco' mode it can turn in good fuel
efficiency figures, sipping just 8.5L/100km (33 mpg) on the
highway and 10.5L/100km(27 mpg) on the city cycle. Even the
production version Volkswagen 2.0T Passat CC with an automatic
transmission records similarly low fuel consumption figures, which is
good for a 4-door coupe of its size and standing. Volkswagen's
Californian team crafted a new look for the Performance CC and
also tuned the chassis to match its boosted powertrain. Black chrome exterior accents are teamed with grey pearl paint and custom front and
rear bumpers to give the VW Passat CC concept a bold show-car look, finished off with stylish 20-inch alloy wheels. A machined aluminium spoiler is also added to the car's deck lid. The
chassis upgrades comprise high performance 245/30 R20 Yokahama
tyres, an H&R street
coil over sport suspension kit and big 355 x 32mm 2-piece floating
(cross drilled) brake rotors with 4-piston Brembo calipers all round.
Even the cabin of the VW CC Eco Performance Concept gets the super star treatment with high-gloss piano black accents contrasted
by matte black graphics. And what performance concept car would be complete without black leather Recaro seats and
matching floor mats? Related Articles: - Volkswagen Golf GTI Pirelli + Passat CC (2009) - Volkswagen
